Barrington Realestate is seeking a whopping $5 million in a $5M contest to help the development of a new luxury hotel in the town.
The $5 Million Barrington Luxury Hotel Project was announced on Wednesday by Barrington Mayor Paul Bensley, who said the hotel would be built on the site of a former tavern.
The new hotel, which is expected to be open in 2019, will have four floors and will include a 1,500-square-foot hotel suite, a restaurant, an outdoor pool and a fitness centre.
The city council will pay Barrington’s development costs for the hotel.
It is the first major development in Barrington, which has a population of about 1,600.
Barrington Mayor Bens, who is the brother of the developer, said the development would “bring Barrington back to its rightful place in the city”.
He said the project was the result of the partnership between the mayor and the developer who would be paid $1.9 million by Barribies development fund.
“The Barrington development fund will support the development with a $1,000 contribution to the hotel development fund,” he said.
“There will be no tax increases.”
The mayor also said that the hotel was the only hotel project in Barribes development.
Barring the success of the hotel project, Barrington has only one other hotel project under construction.
It was designed by New York-based architect Michael Baumgartner and is slated to open in 2018.
Baumgartner was also the architect behind the renovation of the old Barrington Town Hall and the construction of the former Barrington City Hall, where the former City Hall Hotel now stands.
